Jharsuguda: A notorious criminal was injured in an exchange of fire with Brajarajnagar police late on Sunday night in Odisha's Jharsuguda district. The accused, identified as Ankit Ghosh, was later arrested and admitted to the district headquarters hospital for treatment.

According to police, they received information that Ankit and his associates had gathered near the Ib River and were planning a criminal act. Acting on the tip-off, a police team conducted a raid at the spot.

Ankit allegedly opened fire on the team first, firing five rounds. In self-defence, the police retaliated with four rounds, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

During the encounter, Ankit sustained bullet injuries. He was immediately taken into custody and shifted to the district headquarters hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, his associates managed to flee the spot. Police have launched a search operation to trace and arrest the absconding ones.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.
