Bhubaneswar: Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Odisha has revoked the suspension of Aira Kharabela Swain, a former Lok Sabha MP from Balasore.
This was revealed by party’s disciplinary committee convener Sudarshan Nayak today.
“The BJP has revoked the suspension of senior leader Aira Kharabela Swain,” said Nayak in a statement.
Swain had been elected to the Lok Sabha from the Balasore constituency in Odisha on BJP tickets in 1998, 1999 and 2004.
He had left the BJP in 2009 and launched a new political outfit in the state. However, Swain rejoined the saffron party in 2019 and unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha polls from Kandhamal constituency.
The veteran leader had sought the BJP ticket to fight the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Balasore. He fought the election as an independent candidate after the party denied him the ticket. Swain had been suspended from the BJP for indiscipline.
