Bhubaneswar: In a significant decision, the Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has approved the extension of the Mukhya Mantri Sadak Yojana (MMSY) for another five years, till 2030-31.

Briefing mediapersons, Chief Secretary Anu Garg said the Cabinet approved a proposal of the Rural Development Department for construction of 4,607.21 km of roads, including completion of 115 km of ongoing projects under MMSY. The scheme will be implemented with an outlay of ₹4,000 crore over five years, from 2026-27 to 2030-31.

The Cabinet also approved the implementation of ‘MMSY–Connecting Unconnected Villages in Difficult Areas’ for five years (2026-27 to 2030-31) with an outlay of ₹1,300 crore. Under this, 1,150 km of new roads will be taken up, while 949 km of ongoing projects will be completed. Bridges will also be constructed wherever required to improve connectivity in remote areas.
Another proposal, ‘MMSY–Connecting Missing Road Links (CMRL)’, was approved for implementation from 2025-26 to 2029-30 with an outlay of ₹1,917 crore. Around 3,850 km of roads will be developed, along with completion of ongoing works, including bridges and cross-drainage structures.

The Cabinet further cleared ‘MMSY–Improvement of Existing Rural Development Roads’, to be implemented from 2025-26 to 2029-30 with an outlay of ₹5,750 crore. The programme aims to upgrade approximately 17,500 km of roads, along with completion of ongoing projects.

Approval was also given to ‘MMSY–Transferred Roads Improvement Programme (TRIP)’, aimed at improving roads transferred from the Panchayati Raj and other departments. The scheme, with an outlay of ₹6,700 crore, will be implemented from 2025-26 to 2029-30, covering about 25,500 km of roads to enhance access to healthcare, education and other essential services in remote areas.

The Cabinet extended the Setu Bandhan Yojana (earlier Biju Setu Yojana) till 2030-31, approving construction of 1,750 new bridges and completion of 1,417 ongoing bridges, with a total outlay of ₹11,800 crore.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved the Bridge-cum-Weir project, aimed at water conservation and supply for irrigation, domestic use and livestock. The scheme will be implemented from 2026-27 to 2030-31 with an outlay of ₹600 crore, covering 508 new projects and completion of 162 ongoing ones.

In total, the Cabinet approved 13 proposals across seven departments.
