Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will conduct an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas of Odisha on August 1 (Saturday).

The Chief Minister is scheduled to make the aerial survey of flood-affected areas of Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur and Keonjhar at 10 am on August 1. He is likely to review the rescue and relief work after conducting the aerial survey.

Majhi, who was on a four-day visit to New Delhi, had directed the Chief Secretary, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) and other senior officials to take stock of the flood situation and introduce all possible measures to deal with the crisis.

The Chief Minister had also deputed three senior IAS officers to manage the flood situation in Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts.

As per the direction of Majhi, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Keonjhar on Thursday and reviewed the ongoing rescue and relief operations.   

More than seven lakh people in several districts of Odisha have been affected by the floods triggered by the recent spell of heavy rainfall caused by a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal. As per reports, around four lakh people in Bhadrak have been affected by the floods.

Though as many as 20 districts of the state have been affected by the floods, Bhadrak is the worst hit, followed by Balasore, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar. The authorities have evacuated as many as 1.90 lakh people to safer places.

The floods have caused extensive damage to crop fields, road network and other essential services including electricity infrastructure in the affected areas.
