Bhubaneswar: The agitating doctors in Odisha decided to call off their cease-work agitation after a meeting with Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling today.

The doctors, affiliated to Odisha Medical Services Association (OMSA), had launched an indefinite strike on July 1 to press for their 10-point charter of demands.

“We have decided to call off our indefinite strike following a meeting with the Health Minister. As per a decision taken at the meeting, the state government will form a high-level committee to look into our demands,” said the OMSA in a statement.

The state government will convene another meeting on July 22 for further discussion on the demands of the doctors. “All doctors affiliated to OMSA have been asked to return to work with immediate effect. We hope that there will be no further disruption in the healthcare services in hospitals across Odisha,” added OMSA.

Earlier, the Health Minister had invited the agitating doctors for a discussion on their demands.

It is worth mentioning here that the doctors associated with the OMSA had launched their agitation seeking fulfilment of their demands including cadre restructuring, dynamic assured career progression, special incentives and place-based incentives.

The OMSA agitation crippled healthcare services in hospitals across Odisha, including the Community Health Centres (CHCs) and District Headquarters Hospitals (DHHs).
