Baripada: In a deeply disturbing incident, a 36-year-old man allegedly killed his elderly father following a dispute over a small sum of money in Morada in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district. The deceased has been identified as 80 year-old Gobinda Marndi and his accused son Madhu Marndi.The incident took place in Ladidihi village under Haladipal panchayat which comes within Chitrada outpost and Morada police limits.
As per preliminary reports, Madhu was known to frequently demand money from his father. On Wednesday night at around 9 pm, he allegedly approached Gobinda—who was resting at the time—and demanded ₹400, reportedly earned from selling drumstick. When Gobinda refused to hand over the money, the situation escalated quickly.

Police sources indicate that Madhu was under the influence of alcohol during the incident. In a fit of rage, he allegedly assaulted his father with a bamboo stick, repeatedly striking him until he succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
The crime came to light the following morning when locals informed authorities. Acting promptly, Chitrada outpost officer Bhimasen Mallik reached the scene around 10 am today and initiated an investigation after detaining the accused. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Police are continuing their inquiry, and further legal action is expected based on the findings.
The violent nature of the assault has sent shockwaves through the local community, especially given the trivial amount involved. It has also highlighted growing concerns around substance abuse and domestic violence in rural areas.
