Bhubaneswar: Odisha continues to reel under intense heatwave conditions, with as many as 25 places across the state recording day temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius or above.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest location, registering a scorching 44.6 degrees Celsius. Talcher followed at 43.5 degrees Celsius, while Sambalpur recorded 43.3 degrees Celsius.
The state capital, Bhubaneswar, recorded 41.2 degrees Celsius, while Cuttack reported a slightly lower temperature of 39.8 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Centre has forecast heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated places in Bolangir and Jharsuguda districts.
Hot and humid conditions are also expected at isolated places across several districts, including Bolangir, Sundargarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
Additionally, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds (30–40 kmph) are likely to occur during the afternoon or evening hours at one or two places in districts such as Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
A yellow warning has been issued for these districts.
The forecast for hot and humid conditions across several districts is expected to remain in effect until April 27.
