Bhubaneswar: An elderly man in Odisha’s Balasore district reportedly ended his life by jumping before a moving train after facing neglect by his family members.

The incident took place in Soro area of Balasore. The deceased has been identified as Sudarshan Satpathy of Dalanga village under Khaira police limits.

As per reports, Satpathy jumped before a Kolkata-bound goods train near Soro rail station today morning. He died on the spot.

On being informed, the Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem.

According to villagers, Satpathy was facing neglect by his family members since the death of his wife around two years ago.

“Despite being the father of six sons and three daughters, Satpathy was facing neglect for last several days. His six sons are well-settled. But, none of them did come forward to take care of Satpathy, who was a priest by profession. The elderly man was struggling to get food twice a day. He took the extreme step due to depression,” said a villager.
