Cuttack: The Transport Department has expanded the Intelligent Enforcement Management System (IEMS) to four more highway corridors across Odisha as part of state government’s commitment to curb road safety violations.
Electronic challan (e-Challan) enforcement on these newly notified stretches will commence on August 1. “As per the direction of the Commerce and Transport Minister, the IEMS has been extended to four more highway corridors in Odisha as part of the state government’s sustained commitment to strengthening road safety, curbing road safety violations and promoting responsible road user behaviour through technology-driven enforcement,” said the State Transport Authority (STA).
The Intelligent Enforcement Management System (IEMS), which is already operational on selected road corridors in Odisha, uses advanced camera-based surveillance and intelligent analytics to automatically detect traffic violations and generate evidence-based electronic challans. The expansion is aimed at ensuring greater compliance with traffic regulations, improving road discipline and reducing road crashes and fatalities.
The IEMS has been extended to Manguli – Sambalpur, Sambalpur – Raurkela, Brahmapur – Taptapani and Brahmapur – Bhanjanagar highway corridors in the state.
The system will automatically detect traffic violations including over speeding, helmetless journey and wrong-side driving. The e-Challans generated through IEMS will be supported by photographic evidence along with details of the vehicle registration number, date and time of the violation, location, prescribed speed limit and the nature of the offence, ensuring transparency and accuracy in enforcement, added the STA.
The STA has appealed to all motorists to strictly adhere to prescribed speed limits, wear helmets while riding two-wheelers, avoid wrong-side driving and comply with all provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and Rules. Besides, vehicle owners have also been advised to ensure that their registered mobile numbers and addresses are updated for timely receipt of e-Challan notifications.
