Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance has arrested the former Managing Director of LAMPCS in Mayurbhanj district for misappropriation of society funds to the tune of Rs 40.94 lakh.

Himanshu Das, the former MD of LAMPCS, Betnoti, in Mayurbhanj, had been involved in large-scale financial irregularities in the society in 2017-18 financial year, said the Odisha Vigilance.

According to the Vigilance Department, Das had collected substantial amounts from local loanee farmers towards repayment of agricultural and crop loans, member share capital contributions, application form fees and administrative charges. He had also issued money receipts to the farmers acknowledging receipt of these payments.

Instead of depositing the collected revenue into the society’s account, Das misappropriated funds to the tune of Rs 40.94 lakh, added the department.

The Baleshwar Vigilance police have registered a case against the accused under various Sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act-1988 and the IPC and launched a probe into the matter.
