Bhubaneswar: Director General of Police (DGP) in Odisha, YB Khurania, will retire from his service on August 16 this year. The Home Department of the state government has given its nod in this regard.

Khurania, a 1990-btach Odisha cadre IPS officer, had been appointed as the DGP of the state on August 16, 2024. The state government has expedited the process for appointment of a new chief for Odisha Police.

As part of the process, a high-level meeting is scheduled to be held in New Delhi on August 7.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Chairman Ajay Kumar will chair the meet. Additional Secretary to Union Home Ministry, Odisha Chief Secretary Anu Garg and Khurania himself will participate in the meeting for selection of a new DGP for Odisha.

The Odisha government had earlier proposed a panel of 11 senior IPS officers to the UPSC for appointment of a new police chief for the state.

The panel of probable candidates includes senior IPS officers Sudhanshu Sarangi, Susanta Kumar Nath, RP Koche, Sanjeeb Panda, Yeshwant Kumar Jethwa, Ritu Arora, Saumendra Priyadarshi, Santosh Bala, PS Ranpise, Arun Bothra and Sunita Kakran.
