Bhubaneswar: The state government will recruit altogether 385 Assistant Professors for public universities in Odisha by July this year.
This was announced by Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj today.
“The state government has asked the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) to fill up 385 vacant posts of Assistant Professor in public universities by July this year,” said the Minister.
According to the Higher Education Minister, the state government has initiated the process to fill up around 1,400 vacant faculty posts in 17 public universities in Odisha.
“The process for recruitment of Vice Chancellors (VCs) in 13 public universities in the state has reached the final stage. The authorities will expedite the process for recruitment of faculties in the varsities following the posting of the VCs,” added the Minister.
1,430 faculty posts lying vacant in 17 varsities
The State Selection Board (SSB) of the Higher Education Department has been asked to fill up the vacant posts of non-teaching staffs in the universities, said the Minister.
It is worth mentioning here that as many as 1,430 faculty posts are lying vacant in 17 state-run universities in Odisha.
As per the official data, altogether 261 posts of Professor, 459 posts of Associate Professors and 710 posts of Assistant Professors are lying vacant in the varsities.
The highest number of 161 faculty posts, including 22 Professors, 54 Associate Professors and 86 Assistant Professors, are lying vacant at Ravenshaw University in Cuttack while Utkal University in the capital city has 136 vacant posts, including 38 Professors, 49 Associate Professors and 49 Assistant Professors.
Besides, as many as 2,286 non-teaching posts are lying vacant in the varsities.
