Bhubaneswar: A man allegedly killed his wife and tried to end his life by consuming poison over marital discord in the Odisha capital here today.

The incident took place in Chakeisiani area under Mancheswar police limits in the capital city.

The deceased has been identified as Monica Jena. The accused husband, identified as Pradeep Jena, has been admitted to a private hospital, police said.

According to cops, Pradeep had tied the nuptial knot with Monica in 2019. However, the couple was living separately for the last two years over marital dispute.

Pradeep today invited Monica to his place for a discussion to resolve the marital issues. However, he throttled Monica to death and slit the veins of her left hand after a brief argument, they said.

Soon after killing his wife, Pradeep consumed poison in an attempt to end his life. On being informed, the police reached spot and rushed the accused husband to the hospital.

“The accused is undergoing treatment at the hospital. We will arrest him and produce him in the court after his discharge from the health facility,” said an official of Mancheswar police.
