Bhubaneswar: A court in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district today sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for abducting and raping a minor girl in May last year.

The court of the Additional District Judge, Nabarangpur, also slapped a penalty of Rs 30,000 on convict Duryadhan Goud of Dasmantpur area in Koraput district.

The convict will undergo imprisonment for one more year in case of non-payment of the penalty amount, said the court.

As per the case records, the minor girl went missing while on her way to Bali Yatra fair in Tentulikhunti area of Nabarangpur on May 17, 2025.

Her family members had lodged a complaint in this regard with Khatiguda police.

The cops later rescued the minor girl and arrested the accused.

The court convicted the accused after examining 18 witnesses and the evidence gathered by the police during the investigation, said public prosecutor Mrutyunjaya Maharana.

The court has also asked the District Legal Services Authority to provide Rs 10.5 lakh compensation to the victim, he added.
