Bhubaneswar: A man reportedly killed his mother and buried her body beneath the kitchen floor in their rented accommodation in Odisha’s Puri city.

The incident took place in Kumbharpada area of the Holy City. The police have launched a probe into the incident after being informed by the landlady.

As per reports, the woman and her son were staying in the rented accommodation for last two months. However, the man allegedly fled the house on Sunday while there has been no trace of his mother.

Suspicion arose after a foul smell reportedly began emanating from the kitchen on Monday. Suspecting something unpleasant, the landlady informed the police. 

The locals also reportedly noticed wastewater, accompanied by a strong foul smell, seeping onto the kitchen floor, raising suspicions that the woman’s body may have been buried beneath the plaster.

“We rushed to the spot after being informed by the landlady. Steps are being taken to dug up a portion of the kitchen floor to find out the source of the foul smell,” said a police officer.
