Bhubaneswar: A man allegedly killed his wife after suspecting her of infidelity in Odisha’s Anugola district.
The incident took place at Tirabi village of Batisuan panchayat under Pallahara police limits on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Hemalata Mohanta, wife of Soubhagya Mohanta, of the village.
As per reports, Soubhagya and Hemalata had an argument after she reached home late from farmland yesterday evening.
Soubhagya, suspecting Hemalata’s fidelity, attacked her with a bamboo stick and fled the spot. Hemalata sustained grievous injuries in the attack.
On being informed, the police reached the spot and rushed Hemalata to a nearby hospital. However, she was declared dead on arrival by the doctors.
The cops later arrested Soubhagya after registering a murder case against him on the basis of a complaint lodged by the Hemalata’s brother Upendra Mohanta.
The police also seized the body and sent it for postmortem before launching a probe into the incident. “We have seized the bamboo stick from the accused. A scientific team was pressed into service as part of our investigation into the murder case,” said a police officer.
