Berhampur: In a disturbing incident, a 10 year-old missing girl was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Jagannathprasad area of Odisha's Ganjam district. The incident occurred in Laxmanpalli village. While the exact cause of death is being investigated, police suspect murder.

The deceased was identified as a Class 4 student and a native of Kanakuturu village in Buguda block. She had been staying at her maternal uncle’s house since childhood for her education.

As per reports, the girl went missing around 11 am on Wednesday. After an extensive search by family members yielded no results, a complaint was lodged at the local police station. Later in the night, her body was discovered in a toilet located about 20 meters away from her uncle’s house. The body was found wrapped in a plastic sheet, with visible marks on the neck, raising strong suspicion of strangulation using a rope.

Cause of death being probed

Police officials, including Jagannathprasad IIC Pramod Lenka, Belaguntha IIC Rebati Sabara, and Bhanjanagar SDPO Dr. Deepak Kumar Mishra, reached the spot and initiated an investigation.

The exact cause of death is expected to be confirmed after the postmortem examination. Authorities have intensified the probe to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
