Cuttack: SCB Medical College and Hospital's new Superintendent Dr. Jyotish Chandra Choudhury, who recently took charge, has stressed that strengthening fire safety systems will be one of his top priorities. Dr Choudhury who was serving as the Head of the Forensic Medicine and Toxicology department at SCB Medical College and Hospital, took over from Dr. Gautam Satpathy, who came under intense scrutiny in the aftermath of the tragic blaze that claimed 12 lives. His appointment comes in the wake of massive public outrage and political backlash that followed the deadly mishap, prompting the Odisha government to take swift action and appoint new leadership.

SCB to be "broker-free" hospital

After assuming office, Dr. Choudhury stated that strengthening fire safety systems in the hospital will be one of his top priorities. He emphasized that concrete steps will be taken to ensure such incidents are prevented in the future.

He also outlined plans to make SCB a “broker-free” hospital by eliminating middlemen and ensuring better transparency in services. Additionally, strict measures will be introduced to ensure that doctors remain available in the hospital on time, improving accountability and patient care.

The new Superintendent assured that patient welfare will be given utmost importance, with efforts focused on ensuring that all necessary medical facilities are accessible without delay.
