Bhubaneswar: All bus stands across Odisha will be developed under the Atal Bus Stand scheme, as per a gazette notification issued by the State Government on Wednesday.

According to the notification, all bus stands, including those under Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), will be incorporated and integrated into the scheme. The objective is to standardise their development, renovation, operation, maintenance and management under a unified framework.

In line with this, bus stands currently under the Housing and Urban Development Department have been transferred to the Commerce and Transport Department.

Notably, the State Cabinet had approved the Atal Bus Stand scheme on April 10, 2026, for the construction, renovation, development, operation, maintenance and management of bus stands across the state.

Under the scheme, a bipartite agreement will be signed between the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) and selected facility management service agency.

Construction and renovation works will be executed by OSRTC through agencies such as the Odisha State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation (OSPHW&C), Works Department, Rural Development Department, and concerned ULBs or Block Development Officers or by State PSUs like OBCC.

The implementation of bus stand development projects will continue till the financial year 2028–29. The operation, maintenance and management of all bus stands under the scheme will be carried out until the financial year 2031–32, the notification stated.

The State Government has made a budgetary provision of ₹2,630 crore for the scheme up to FY 2028–29. Additionally, ₹770 crore has been earmarked for operation, maintenance, renovation and management of bus stands under the scheme up to FY 2031–32.
