Bhubaneswar: In a major move to strengthen the fight against cyber-enabled financial crimes, Odisha Police on Wednesday launched the e-Zero FIR System for cyber financial fraud cases. The new system aims to ensure faster registration of cases, quicker police intervention and improved chances of recovering money lost in online frauds.

Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania formally launched the initiative, describing it as an important step towards technology-driven, transparent and citizen-centric policing.

As part of the initiative, the State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) has integrated the National Cybercrime Helpline 1930 with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) in Odisha. The integration enables automatic generation of e-Zero FIR requests for eligible cyber financial fraud complaints, regardless of where the offence occurred.

Under the new system, complaints involving cyber financial frauds of ₹10 lakh or more, reported through the National Cybercrime Helpline 1930, will automatically generate an e-Zero FIR request in the CCTNS. These requests will be routed to the Cyber Police Station of the Crime Branch in Odisha for further action.

Depending on the facts of each case, the Cyber Police Station may register a regular FIR and investigate the matter, transfer the complaint to the appropriate Cyber Police Station, register a Zero FIR and forward it to the competent territorial Cyber Crime Police Station, link the complaint with an existing FIR, or close the request if it does not meet the prescribed criteria.

According to Odisha Police, the new system will eliminate duplicate data entry, speed up the registration process, improve coordination among law enforcement agencies and allow complainants to track the progress of their cases more efficiently.

Speaking at the launch, DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania said Odisha Police is committed to using technology to strengthen its response to cybercrime and deliver timely, transparent and citizen-friendly services. He urged people to report cyber financial frauds immediately through the National Cybercrime Helpline 1930, saying prompt reporting increases the chances of swift police action and recovery of the defrauded amount.

The DGP also congratulated officers and personnel of the State Crime Records Bureau, the Crime Branch and other stakeholders for their efforts in successfully implementing the e-Zero FIR System.

The launch of the system is expected to strengthen Odisha Police's technology-driven policing framework and improve the State's ability to tackle the growing threat of cyber financial fraud while ensuring quicker access to justice for victims.
