Bhubaneswar: A case has been registered against a police Sub-Inspector in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district in connection with the alleged sexual exploitation of a woman.

Sub-Inspector Prabhat Kumar Nayak of Baripada Town police has been accused of maintaining physical relationship with the woman on false assurance of marriage.

The Baripada Town police registered a case against Nayak and detained him for interrogation after the victim lodged a complaint with the Mayurbhanj SP.

As per the complaint, the Sub-Inspector had developed a relationship with the woman, a resident of Brahamagiri area in Puri district, a few years ago.

He reportedly ditched the woman after keeping physical relationship with her on the promise of marriage.

According to the victim, Nayak had alleged married her in the presence of some social activists in a temple at Baripada. However, he later disowned the woman.

“We have registered a case against the accused Sub-Inspector and six others on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim. The accused has been detained for questioning,” said Baripada SDPO Pravat Mallick.

Nayak, however, claimed that he had married the woman a few years ago. But, they were staying separately for last few days due to marital dispute.
