Bhubaneswar: The state government will establish ‘Lakshmi Purana’ corridor in Gop area of Odisha’s Puri district.

This was announced by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida during a seminar on revered Odia text ‘Lakshmi Purana’ in the capital city here today.

“The proposed corridor will come up near the memorial shrine of poet Balaram Das, the composer of Lakshmi Purana, at Begunia village under Gop block in Puri district,” said the Deputy Chief Minister.  

According to her, the corridor will play a key role in popularizing Lakshmi Purana as well as showcasing the cultural heritage of Odisha among the visitors.

“Lakshmi Purana is a religious text, composed by the 15^th century Odia poet Balaram Das. It challenges social discrimination and advocates women empowerment. The revered text has taught us that women empowerment is necessary for the progress of the society,” added the Deputy Chief Minister.

The Tourism Department of the state government will establish the corridor with an expenditure of Rs 28 crore and the project will be completed within three years, stated Parida.

Speaking on the occasion, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan paid glowing tribute to Lakshmi Purana. “Lakshmi Purana is not only a piece of devotional text dedicated to Maa Laxmi, it also propagates equal rights and respect for the women,” he said.
