Bhubaneswar: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested two alleged drug traffickers and uncovered a large-scale ganja smuggling network operating between Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal.
Acting on intelligence about a major deal, the NCB team from Bhubaneswar conducted a raid in the Kakiriguma area of Koraput district. During the operation, officials seized ganja worth over ₹1.5 crore along with two vehicles used for transporting the contraband.
The two accused, who hail from the Koraput region, attempted to flee as soon as they noticed the presence of the NCB team. However, after a brief chase and coordinated effort by officials, they were successfully apprehended. During preliminary interrogation, investigators found that the duo was not operating independently but was part of a larger, well-organized drug trafficking network. They were reportedly working on a commission basis, facilitating the transportation of ganja for higher-level operators in the racket.
Smuggling network spanned Andhra–Odisha border to West Bengal
Sources indicate that the smuggling network was systematically organized, with a defined route stretching from the Andhra–Odisha border, moving through Berhampur, and extending all the way to West Bengal. The use of vehicles and local operatives suggests a planned and recurring operation aimed at large-scale distribution.
The NCB has now intensified its investigation to uncover the full extent of the network. Efforts are underway to identify key handlers, financiers, and other associates involved in the chain. Officials believe that further arrests are likely as the probe progresses.
