Gunupur: In a tragic mishap, two persons lost their lives after a head-on collision between two motorcycles in Gunupur in Odisha's Rayagada district today. The incident took place near Bada Baridi. 

The deceased have been identified as Shiba Mandangi and Arka Bhugana. According to preliminary information, Shiba had gone to Chinariguda village for some personal work. While he was returning home, his motorcycle reportedly collided head-on with another bike ridden by Arka, who was travelling from the opposite direction near Baridi.

Victims succumb to critical injuries at hospital

The impact of the collision was severe, leaving both riders critically injured on the road. After receiving the alert, personnel from the Gunupur Fire Services immediately rushed to the accident spot and launched a rescue operation. The injured men were shifted to the Gunupur Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment. However, despite efforts to save them, doctors at the hospital declared both riders dead.

Gunupur Police later reached the hospital, seized the bodies for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact cause of the accident, they informed. 

The incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of safe riding and responsible driving on roads.
