Sundargarh: In an unsettling incident, two motorcycle riders were killed and another sustained critical injuries after being hit by a vehicle allegedly belonging to the police in Sundargarh district.
The accident took place near Chhatenpali village under Lephripada police limits. According to preliminary reports, a vehicle bearing registration number OR-05AV-5338, linked to the Lephripada police station, allegedly rammed into a motorcycle carrying three persons.
Eyewitnesses said two riders died on the spot, while the third is battling for life. All three were rushed to a nearby hospital in a police ambulance.
Initial reports indicate the victims were residents of Kuanrbaga village.
Attempts to contact officials at the Lephripada police station, including the station in-charge, were unsuccessful as calls reportedly went unanswered.
In a controversial turn, locals alleged police personnel removed the beacon light from the vehicle after the accident, possibly to avoid public anger at the scene.
The incident has sparked outrage among locals, and a detailed investigation into the matter is awaited.
