Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Election Commission (SEC) will begin a door-to-door survey from October 26 to prepare the electoral rolls for the upcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Body (ULB) elections.

State Election Commission Secretary Santosh Kumar Dash said the voter list preparation exercise will commence after the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The house-to-house survey will be conducted between October 26 and November 7.

The decision was taken at a meeting held on Tuesday. The SEC will complete the formation of survey teams by July 31. Each team will include Booth Level Officers (BLOs), Anganwadi workers and ASHA workers to ensure comprehensive verification of voters.

According to the Commission, the final voter lists for all wards across the state are expected to be published by February 10.

The SEC also indicated that the Panchayat and ULB elections could be delayed slightly due to the ongoing Census exercise.

During the meeting, the Commission also decided to repair old ballot boxes and procure additional new ballot boxes to strengthen election preparedness.

To prevent double voting, the SEC said it will adopt a de-duplication application to ensure that no voter is enrolled or allowed to vote from more than one location.
