Odisha Vigilance Arrests Jeypore Deputy Director of Mines in Rs 2 Lakh Bribery Case

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday arrested Satyajit Rout, Deputy Director (Geology)-cum-Deputy Director of Mines, Jeypore, Koraput district, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a leaseholder.

According to Vigilance officials, Rout had allegedly demanded the bribe to grant an extension after the expiry of a sand lease period and to facilitate future benefits in spot auctions of sand sources.

Acting on a complaint, Odisha Vigilance laid a trap and apprehended Rout while he was allegedly accepting the bribe. The entire tainted amount of Rs 2 lakh was recovered from his possession and seized.

Following the arrest, Vigilance teams launched simultaneous searches at his residences in Lingaraj Nagar in Jeypore, Bidyadharpur in Cuttack, and Olakana under Mahanga in Cuttack district to investigate possible disproportionate assets.

During the searches, officials recovered and seized an additional Rs 2.90 lakh in cash from Rout's residence in Jeypore. With this, the total cash seizure in the case has reached Rs 4.90 lakh.

Odisha Vigilance has registered Koraput Vigilance Police Station Case No. 14/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation into the case is continuing.
