Baleshwar: Odisha Vigilance officials have recovered land documents relating to 20 plots that were allegedly concealed at the residence of a contractor in Baleshwar in connection with the disproportionate assets case against Arabinda Mohanty, Executive Engineer of the Rural Works (R&B) Sub-Division at Betanoti in Mayurbhanj district.

According to the latest update from the Vigilance, Mohanty’s house was also searched on Monday, during which several records were recovered. Some documents had allegedly been buried underground after the raids were launched. Vigilance officials subsequently dug up the earth and retrieved the documents.

The investigating agency also found a locker allegedly held by Mohanty in a benami arrangement in the name of the same contractor. Cash amounting to Rs 2.77 lakh and gold belonging to Mohanty were recovered from the locker and seized.

The Vigilance had on Monday conducted simultaneous searches at 10 locations linked to Mohanty over allegations of possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

During the searches, officials detected several properties and other assets allegedly linked to Mohanty and his family members.

These include a triple-storeyed building measuring around 3,500 sq ft at Angargadia in Baleshwar and a double-storeyed building measuring approximately 1,800 sq ft at Balianta in Khordha district.

The officials also traced a five-acre farmhouse at Basantapur in Baleshwar, comprising two fish ponds and a poultry farm.

Besides, 20 high-value plots in and around Baleshwar town have been identified during the searches.

The Vigilance Technical Wing is conducting detailed measurements and valuation of the buildings, farmhouse and plots to ascertain their actual value.

The searches have so far led to the seizure of Rs 2.77 lakh in cash, while one Brezza car and two two-wheelers allegedly linked to Mohanty were also detected.

Two lockers—one maintained by Mohanty’s spouse and another allegedly belonging to an associate—are yet to be opened. The Vigilance is also verifying details of bank deposits and other investments in financial instruments.

Further assessment of the properties and financial assets is underway.
