Bhubaneswar: A watchman of Bidyadharpur barrage in Odisha’s Keonjhar district died after he was allegedly run over by a sand-laden truck last night.

The deceased has been identified as Ram Chandra Sahu of Thakur Patna village in Keonjhar.

As per reports, Sahu was engaged as a watchman at Bidyadharpur barrage on Baitarani river. He was run over by the truck while on duty Saturday night. Sahu died on the spot, reports said.

Soon after the incident, the driver of the sand-laden truck managed to flee. On being informed, a team of the Soso police station reached the spot and seized the vehicle.

The cops also seized the body and sent it for postmortem before launching a probe into the incident.

The locals, meanwhile, urged the administration to provide compensation to Sahu’s family. “Sahu was the sole bread earner of his family. His wife will face an uphill task to bring up their two kids. The administration should provide compensation to the deceased’s family,” said a villager.
