Bhubaneswar: A woman lost her life after being struck by lightning while collecting clothes from her backyard as Nor’wester lashed several places in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district today.

The deceased has been identified as Mench Singh of Ranipokhari village under Sarat police limits in Mayurbhanj.

As per reports, the woman rushed to collect dry sari and other clothes from her backyard when Nor’wester lashed the locality in the afternoon.

She fell unconscious after being struck by the lightning while fetching the clothes. The locals rescued the woman and rushed her to a hospital at Udala in a critical condition.

However, she was declared dead on arrival by the doctors. On being informed, the police reached the spot and launched a probe into the incident.
