Berhampur: Tension erupted after a CCTV video, allegedly showing a headmaster beating students and using abusive language inside a classroom in Odisha's Ganjam district, went viral on social media. The incident, which was reported from Dengadi Shyama Sundar High School under Sanakhemundi block, has triggered sharp criticism from the public and outrage among viewers

As per reports, the viral footage shows school headmaster Sanjay Pal entering the classroom in an angry state, carrying a stick, verbally abusing students and hitting some of them. He was seen mercilessly beating the students without restraint with the children showing signs of distress and fear.

Concerns over corporal punishment

While the headmaster’s anger was questioned, viewers also expressed concern as to why corporal punishment was used in a punishment-free school environment. Doubts were also raised regarding how the CCTV footage from the school was accessed and circulated on social media.

Parents and locals have now demanded a fair inquiry into both the alleged misconduct and the leak of CCTV footage.

Contacted, the accused headmaster alleged that the school’s PET teacher, Shambhupani Swain, was behind the circulation of the video in an attempt to defame him. He also claimed that the matter has already been brought to the notice of the district education officer.
