Bhubaneswar: The police have detained a youth in Odisha’s Jajpur district for circulating an AI-generated image of a prowling tiger on the social media.

The police detained the youth for questioning after his claim of sighting a tiger at Saudia in Barchana area turned out to be a hoax. 

The youth, identified as Srikant Dhinda of the village, claimed that he had spotted the tiger near a sugarcane field outside the village in the afternoon and captured the image of the big cat in his mobile phone.

Dhinda’s claim triggered panic among the villagers, who immediately informed the incident to police as well as the Forest Department.  

Soon, a team of the Balichandrapur police as well as officials of the Forest Department rushed to the village and talked to the villagers.

The police detained the youth after he admitted that he had circulated the AI-generated images of a tiger and its pugmarks on the social media.
