Bhubaneswar: A 48-year-old woman died and her husband sustained grievous injuries after they were allegedly assaulted by their son over family discord in Odisha’s Cuttack district last night.

The incident took place at Atanda village under Kanpur police limits in Cuttack. The deceased has been identified as Mini Sethy, wife of Sanatan Sethy (60) of the village. Accused Sanjay Sethy is the eldest son of the couple.

As per reports, Sanjay allegedly attacked his parents with an iron pipe following a brief argument over some issues around 10 pm yesterday.

The couple reportedly sustained severe head injuries in the attack. The villagers rescued the injured duo and rushed them to a Community Health Centre (CHC) at Baramba.

However, Mini was declared dead on arrival by the doctors. Sanatan was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack city as his condition deteriorated.

On being informed, Kanpur police reached the CHC and seized the body before sending it for postmortem.

The cops also visited the crime spot and launched a probe into the incident after accused Sanjay’s younger brother Ajay lodged a formal complaint with Kanpur police.

The police have seized the iron pipe and blood-soaked clothes from the spot, reports said.
