Bhubaneswar: Three youths were swept away by the strong currents while bathing and taking selfies in Mahanadi river in Odisha’s Cuttack city today.
The locals managed to rescue two among them while the third one was missing till the last report came in.
As per reports, the three youths, all from the Macchua Bazar area of Cuttack, ventured into the Mahanadi river near the Naraj barrage in the afternoon. They swept away by the strong currents while taking selfies in the river.
Some locals rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation after listening to their screams. They somehow rescued two youths while the third one, identified as Akash Behera, went missing in the river.
On being informed, the Fire Brigade personnel reached the spot and launched an operation to trace the missing youth. However, the rescue operation was discontinued as the night set in.
