One dead as ‘Ama Bus’ hits motorcycle in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A person died after an ‘Ama Bus’ hit a motorcycle on National Highway (NH)-16 in Odisha capital today. The mishap took place near Satsang Vihar in the capital city in the afternoon.

As per reports, the biker was on his way to Bhubaneswar from Cuttack. The Ama Bus reportedly hit his motorcycle (Registration no. OD-13-M-4520) from the rear on the NH-16. The biker was critically injured in the incident.

The driver of the Ama Bus fled the spot soon after the mishap, reports said. The locals gathered at the spot and staged a road blockade to protest the incident.

On being informed, senior officials of the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) that operates the ‘Ama Bus’ fleet reached the spot and rushed the injured biker to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

However, the identity of the deceased person is yet to be known. In addition to the insurance money, the CRUT has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the deceased’s family.  

“A committee has been formed to conduct a probe into the mishap. Stern action will be initiated if anyone is found guilty in this regard,” said the CRUT in a statement.
