Bhubaneswar: In a major initiative to showcase Odisha’s rich handloom and handicraft traditions on a national platform, the Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS), under the Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Department, has opened its first-ever ORMAS Pop-up Store in New Delhi.

Located at DLF Avenue, Saket, the pop-up store will remain operational for one month, from August 11 to September 10, 2026. The initiative aims to provide a prominent platform for Odisha’s distinctive handloom and handicraft products while connecting rural producers from the State with consumers in the national capital.

The store was formally inaugurated on the evening of August 11 by Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Minister Rabi Narayan Naik. The inaugural ceremony was attended by Girish S.N., Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Department; Monica Priyadarshini, CEO, ORMAS; senior officials of the department; and other distinguished guests.

The special pop-up store showcases more than 30 varieties of renowned handloom and handicraft products from 14 districts of Odisha for display and sale.

The collection includes a wide range of the State’s celebrated handloom products, including Sambalpuri Ikat sarees, Sambalpuri silk sarees, Kotpad sarees, Pattachitra sarees, Habaspuri sarees, Habaspuri silk sarees, tussar sarees, tussar silk sarees and Khandua Pata sarees. The store also features traditional Sambalpuri jewellery, Dhokra jewellery and several other products reflecting the diverse craftsmanship and artistic traditions of different regions of Odisha.

The initiative is expected to create direct market linkages between the State’s weavers, artisans and community-based organisations (CBOs) and consumers in Delhi. It will help expand their market reach, enhance brand visibility and support the growth of their businesses and livelihoods.

The establishment of the ORMAS Pop-up Store in New Delhi marks an important step towards taking Odisha’s rich handloom and handicraft traditions to a wider national audience. By creating a dedicated platform in a major urban market, the initiative seeks to provide greater visibility and market access to the State’s rural producers, weavers and artisans.
