Berhampur: In a major crackdown on gambling, Berhampur Sadar Police raided a gambling den at Rohiga and arrested more than 20 persons involved in the illegal activity.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a raid at the spot, where participants were allegedly betting large sums of money and using land documents as stakes. During the operation, some gamblers resisted the police, leading to a scuffle. Several others managed to flee the place.

Police seized Rs 5.50 lakh cash, 19 motorcycles, a Hyundai Creta car, and several land deeds from the gambling den. Preliminary investigation revealed that land documents had been pledged in gambling bets. In some cases, agreements had reportedly been prepared for the sale of specific land if the owner lost the bet.

Police have launched further investigations to identify and apprehend those who escaped during the raid.

Berhampur Superintendent of Police Saravana Vivek M said strict action would be taken against those involved in the gambling network.
