Bhubaneswar: A private nursing home in Odisha’s Ganjam district was sealed following a surprise raid by the administration today.

The nursing home, located in Sanakhemundi area of Ganjam, was sealed for the second time in last one year.

The officials of the Health Department accompanied by the Drugs Inspector and senior police officers sealed the nursing home on Saturday. Sanakhemundi Tahsildar was also present during the raid.

Owner detained for questioning

The police have also detained the owner of the nursing home for questioning.

The Health Department authorities had sealed the nursing home in May last year following the death of a woman and her newborn baby due to alleged medical negligence.

As per the allegations, the woman, identified as Roji Nayak of Karakhandi village, was admitted to the nursing home after she complaint of labor pain on May 13, 2025.

Roji and her newborn baby died in the health facility allegedly due to negligence by the doctors and paramedics.

The deceased woman’s husband, Babu Nayak, lodged a complaint in this regard with Digapahandi police, Health Department and the Ganjam district Collector.

The health facility had been sealed last year

The complainant alleged that the authorities of the private nursing home engaged some untrained an unrecognized health staff to attend to his wife. He also blamed the medical negligence for the death of his wife and newborn baby.

On the basis of the complaint, the police registered a case and launched a probe.

The cops had arrested the nursing home’s owner Manguli Pradhan and a paramedic, identified as Madhusmita Patnaik, in connection with the incident.

The Health Department had granted a conditional approval to the nursing home to resume operation around a month ago, sources said.
