Bhubaneswar: A shrine in Ferozepur district of Punjab has agreed to postpone its proposed Rath Yatra on May 23 following objection from the authorities of Jagannath temple at Odisha’s Puri town.
The authorities of Shri Jagannath Temple at Ferozepur Cantonment in Punjab today submitted their written consent before the local administration to postpone the proposed Rath Yatra.
Deepshikha Sharma, the Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate of Ferozepur, sent a letter in this regard to Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) chief Arabinda Kumar Padhee today.
Earlier, the SJTA had objected to the proposed Rath Yatra by the Jagannath temple at Ferozepur Cantonment on May 23. It had urged the Ferozepur district administration to intervene and prevent the temple from holding the untimely Rath Yatra.
As per the traditional Tithi, the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath is scheduled to be held at Puri on July 16.
“The office of the Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate of Ferozepur raised the issue with the temple authorities. The temple administrators have provided their written consent to postpone the Rath Yatra,” Sharma said in her letter to the SJTA chief.
The SJTA, meanwhile, revealed that the authorities of Jagannath temple at Ferozepur Cantonment have agreed to hold Rath Yatra on July 16. It has thanked the Ferozepur district administration for its intervention to stop the untimely Rath Yatra.
