Kataka: Fresh allegation of ragging has surfaced at Ravenshaw University after a second-year undergraduate student accused some third-year students of allegedly subjecting him to mental and physical harassment.
The complainant, Manoranjan Majhi, a second-year Plus III student and resident of Jagannath Hostel, alleged some third-year students of the same hostel harassed him following a disagreement over an online mobile game.
According to Majhi, the senior students allegedly cheated while playing the online game, which he objected to. Following the disagreement, the students allegedly became angry and called him near their hostel room, where they subjected him to mental and physical harassment, he alleged.
“Yesterday night, the seniors called a meeting at the TV hall of the university hostel. They hurled abuses and scolded my parents as well,” Majhi alleged.
He subsequently lodged a complaint with the university’s Anti-Ragging Cell. He later emailed the Registrar and Chief Warden of Ravenshaw University, seeking action over the alleged incident.
Reactions from the university authorities were not immediately available.
Further details regarding the alleged incident are awaited.
In July last year, ten third-year students were temporarily expelled from East Hostel after 65 freshers were allegedly made to stand late at night. The action was subsequently revoked after the first-year students submitted a written petition stating there had been no ragging and that they had interacted with the seniors voluntarily.
