Bhubaneswar: Issuing a directive to the Ravenshaw University once more, Odisha's Higher Education Department today asked the varsity authorities to ensure proper management of government residential quarters, prevent unauthorised occupation, and streamline the collection of dues such as electricity and water charges.

The department also sought a detailed compliance report within seven days, as the university failed to submit the same despite earlier instructions.

In a letter to the university Registrar, Director of Higher Education Kaliprasanna Mohapatra said the department had earlier written to the varsity on June 10 regarding the issue. However, no compliance report has been submitted so far, which the department has taken seriously.

The department emphasised the need for immediate steps to ensure transparent and efficient management of government housing, prevent unauthorised occupation, and avoid revenue loss.

It also stated if the compliance report has already been submitted, the university should resend a copy to the department.
The department has sought detailed information on several aspects, including: Total number of government quarters, Category-wise list of occupants, Status of electricity meter installations, Collection of licence fees, Details of collected and pending dues for electricity, water and other charges, Steps taken to recover outstanding dues and Occupation of quarters by daily wage, contractual and outsourced staff.

Additionally, the university has been asked to outline measures taken to prevent unauthorised occupation, install separate electricity meters, and ensure a transparent billing and collection system.
