Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a red warning for several districts of Odisha, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall as a low pressure area is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining west Bangladesh coast during the next 24 hours.

According to the IMD, an upper air cyclonic circulation currently persists over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Bangladesh. Under its influence, a low pressure area is expected to develop over the north Bay of Bengal and the adjoining west Bangladesh coast, which is likely to trigger widespread rainfall across Odisha.

The weather agency said light to moderate rainfall has already occurred at a few places across the state. Heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated places in Kendrapara, Balasore, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Jagatsinghpur and Bhadrak districts.

Red Warning for today

The IMD has issued a red warning for Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at a few places, with extremely heavy rainfall expected at one or two locations.

An orange warning has been issued for Balasore, Jajpur, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places.

A yellow warning has been issued for Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal and Rayagada, with heavy rainfall expected at one or two places.

Jagatsinghpur under Red Warning tomorrow

For Wednesday, the IMD has issued a red warning for Jagatsinghpur district, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places.

An orange warning has been issued for Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh and Dhenkanal, while a yellow warning remains in effect for Balasore, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam.
