Cuttack: A Revenue Inspector (RI) posted at Tangi-Choudwar Tahasil in Cuttack district was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance on Sunday, while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000.

The accused, identified as Rajaram Bandra, was caught inside his office at Mangarajpur during a planned trap.

Bribe demanded for favourable report in land mutation case

According to officials, the accused had demanded the money from a landowner in exchange for submitting a favourable report in a mutation case. The complainant had applied online on March 10, 2026, seeking conversion of his ‘patita’ land into homestead land as per government guidelines.

Threats prompt complainant to approach Vigilance

Officials said the Revenue Inspector allegedly threatened to withhold the report unless the bribe was paid. Facing pressure, the landowner approached vigilance authorities, leading to the trap operation.

Bribe amount recovered and seized

The vigilance team intercepted Bandra while accepting the bribe amount. The entire Rs 30,000 was recovered from his possession and seized as evidence.

Searches underway; case registered

Following the arrest, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations linked to the accused to probe disproportionate assets. A case has been registered at Cuttack Vigilance Police Station under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is ongoing.
