Baleshwar: Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested a Revenue Inspector (RI) of Tudigadia under Khaira Tahasil in Odisha's Baleshwar district while he was allegedly accepting Rs 5,000 as a bribe from an applicant in a land mutation case.
The accused, identified as Sarat Kumar Sethy, was allegedly demanding the money to submit a favourable field enquiry report and facilitate the issuance of a Record of Rights (RoR) in favour of the applicant's grandfather.
According to the Vigilance, the complainant had applied for mutation of ancestral land to obtain the RoR. However, Sethy delayed the process and later demanded Rs 5,000 to proceed with the case.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Odisha Vigilance authorities. Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team laid a trap and caught Sethy inside his office.
The entire Rs 5,000 bribe amount was recovered from his possession and seized by the Vigilance officials.
Following the arrest, simultaneous searches were conducted at two locations linked to Sethy to examine possible possession of disproportionate assets.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
