Bhubaneswar: Senior IPS officer Vinaytosh Mishra on Sunday assumed charge as the acting Director General of Police (DGP) in Odisha.

The state government had appointed Mishra, the Director General of CID and Crime Branch in Odisha, as the acting DGP on August 14.

The 1993-batch IPS officer assumed the charge from outgoing DGP YB Khurania.

Khurania, a 1990-btach Odisha cadre IPS officer, had been appointed as the DGP of the state on August 16, 2024.

The state government allowed Khurania to retire from his service after the completion of the two-year term.

“Mishra will remain in additional charge of DGP until further orders,” said the state government.

The Odisha government had earlier proposed a panel of 11 senior IPS officers to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for appointment of a new police chief for the state.
