Bhadrak: In a major crackdown on illegal narcotics trafficking, the Excise Department in Odisha's Bhadrak district successfully seized 44 kg ganja and arrested two accused in this connection. The duo was allegedly transporting the contraband from Phulbani to Balasore. The operation was carried out by the mobile enforcement unit of the Bhadrak Excise Department during a routine vehicle checking drive.
As per reports, officials became suspicious of a car and signaled it to stop for inspection. However, instead of cooperating, the driver refused to open the doors and attempted to escape from the spot, raising further suspicion. Sensing the seriousness of the situation, Excise Officer Rajkishore Jena, along with his team, quickly took action and strategically blocked the vehicle to prevent it from fleeing. In the tense moments that followed, the officials had to break the car’s window to gain entry and bring the situation under control.
Ganja being smuggled to Balasore, larger nexus suspected
Both occupants of the vehicle were overpowered and taken into custody. A thorough search of the car led to the recovery of 44 kg ganja, which had been concealed inside the vehicle for illegal transportation.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the seized contraband was being smuggled from the Phulbani region to Balasore, suggesting possibility of a larger interstate or inter-district drug network. Authorities are now probing further to uncover any links to organized trafficking operations and to identify other individuals who may be involved.
The arrested individuals are reported to be residents of the Phulbani area. They are currently being interrogated, and legal proceedings have been initiated against them under relevant provisions of the law, Excise authorities informed. Further investigation is underway.
