Bhubaneswar: With an aim to include eligible voters, particularly those whose names are missing from the current electoral rolls, as well as first-time electors, the Odisha Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) office has launched a special drive.
As part of the campaign, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct house-to-house verification. The BLOs have been targeted to add around 20–25 eligible voters at each polling booth within a month.
The CEO’s office has issued directions to all District Election Officers (DEOs), Collectors, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) to implement the campaign.
Under the initiative, BLOs will compare the current electoral rolls with the rolls prepared before the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). A list will be prepared of the voters whose names appeared in the earlier rolls but are missing from the current electoral rolls.
BLOs will then conduct house-to-house visits to verify the current status of the identified voters. Those found eligible will be assisted in submitting Form-6 for inclusion of their names in the electoral rolls.
The lists prepared by BLOs will also be shared with Booth Level Agents (BLAs) of recognised political parties.
Subsequently, the filled-in Form-6 applications along with field verification reports will be submitted to the concerned Electoral Registration Officers (EROs).
The EROs will take necessary action on the applications in accordance with election laws and rules.
After completion of the campaign, booth-wise lists will be shared with representatives of recognised political parties, allowing them to assist in the process of enrolling eligible voters whose names were left out of the electoral rolls.
The authorities have also directed officials to organise Booth Level Camps for voter enrolment. Special camps may be organised, wherever necessary, for people staying in night shelters, labour settlements, homeless persons and other vulnerable or marginalised sections of society.
