Sundargarh: Odisha Vigilance officials have so far seized cash worth Rs 10.74 lakh and unearthed several high-value assets during searches linked to Muralidhar Urmal, OAS, Tahasildar-cum-Sub-Registrar of Lathikata in Sundargarh district.

Urmal was intercepted on Thursday while allegedly carrying Rs 5 lakh in suspected ill-gotten cash. Subsequent searches at his premises in Sundargarh and Rourkela led to the recovery of an additional Rs 5.74 lakh.

The total cash seizure in the case has now reached Rs 10.74 lakh, Vigilance officials said.

The searches have also uncovered a double-storeyed building measuring approximately 3,700 square feet at Karmdihi in Sundargarh. Officials have also identified six high-value plots located on the outskirts of Sundargarh and Rourkela towns.

Other assets found during the searches include 241 grams of gold jewellery and 635 grams of silver ornaments. Bank, postal and insurance deposits worth Rs 66.10 lakh have also been detected.

The Vigilance team has further found one Hyundai Grand i10 Sportz car and three two-wheelers.

Searches at the locations are still underway, and officials are expected to assess the value and source of the assets as part of the ongoing investigation. Further details are awaited.
