Nilagiri: In a tragic incident, two 10-year-old girls lost their lives after drowning while bathing together in a village under Khantapada police limits in Odisha’s Balasore district.

The incident occurred in Saanta village, where the two friends—Annapurna, daughter of Sanjay Mallick, and Anyashree, daughter of Sujit Mallick from nearby Bhuinpada village—had gone to bathe together in a pond.

According to reports, the girls accidentally slipped into deep water and drowned.

Families launch search after girls fail to return home

When the children did not return home for a long time, their family members began searching for them. Locals later found the girls submerged in the water and rushed them to the Nilagiri Sub-Divisional Hospital.

However, doctors declared both of them dead on arrival.

The heartbreaking incident has left the local community in shock and mourning.
