Kataka: Two minor boys have been detained by police for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl inside a hotel room in the Badambadi area of Odisha's Kataka city on Wednesday.

The incident came to light after the girl attempted to end her life by jumping into the Mahanadi River near Gadgadia Ghat. While questioning the girl after rescuing her, police came to know about the alleged rape.

According to the complaint, the girl, a Plus II first-year student, had become friends with a 16-year-old boy from Bali Sahi while studying at the same college. The two later developed a relationship.

Last month, the boy called the girl to a hotel in Badambadi. When she reached the hotel, his 17-year-old friend from Baunshagali was also present. The two boys allegedly raped the girl inside the hotel room.

Badambadi police have registered a case and detained both accused boys. Further investigation is underway.
